The Chicken fair

“It is the day of the fair, People gathering from near and far come around to win the prize for best chicken, so my only question is this Mr Boxtrotter... why did you do it.” said Chief Brain with a angry tone in his voice. “ Because I  felt like it, why do you care anyway.” whispered Box acting like he was innocent (but everyone knows he’s not).

While Chief Brain is interrogating Box I’m watching the recording from the police station. Someone stole MY chicken and I know it was him ever since he pushed me into the lake and my boat sank and shoved me in a box.

You know what I’ll tell you what happened from the beginning. It all started 24 hours ago; I was getting my chicken ready for the annual California chicken fair. I was entered in the most weirdest chicken contest and I had a real winner even my brother Tap thought so and he won every year; but not this year this year it was my turn. Well that’s what I thought until that dreadful day came. I put the chickens in the barn locked it and went back inside to bed. The next day I went to check on the chickens to feed them but to my surprise my prize chicken Clucky was gone. I was in such a state of shock that I didn’t know what to do but scream “ MUM, DAD, TAP ANYONE HELP HELP!” Tap came running to the barn and in a frantic mood said “ What’s wrong, what’s happened, why are you screaming.” I told him what happened I was so upset. Then I remembered that I had set up the security system so I grabbed the video files and watched them.

 I opened up the file with last nights footage on it. I watched closely when a mysterious figure emerged from the shadows of the night. He was tall and wide wearing nothing but black leather and the thing that stood out was that hideous, crisp apple green, jagged hair it looked like grass that hadn’t been maoed in a year. As soon as I saw the hair on the camera footage I had from the barn I new that it was… Box Boxtrotter, with a monumental sized bat he waltzed up to the the barn where the chickens were staying and broke down the door. He walked inside and nothing happened for 30 minutes but then I saw him walking out with Clucky MY prize chicken. I put the file on a hard drive and went to my brother “ I found out who stole Clucky.” I told him “ Well then you need to go to Chief Brain and show him the file.” Said Tap with a brave look in his eye but however me being me ( a shy little nerd ) I didn’t want to go to the police. “ No Tap I’m scared to what if they think that I’m lying or just trying to get a laugh.” “ They won’t Chief Brain knows you well enough that you wouldn’t do that.” Said Tap reassuring me “ and besides I’ll come with you we can tell the Chief together.” “ Thanks Tap you know me better than anyone.” “Well we better get going if you want Clucky back the fair starts in 1 hour.” said Tap trying to rush me. “ 1 HOUR! That’s not enough time!”

“ I know let’s go.” We ran as fast as we could to the police station to report a missing Chicken ( witch happens a lot more often than you think ).

The police station isn’t the most cleanest place you could ever be in, it’s a sticky, sweaty, smokey pit of disappear filled with criminals. “ Tap I’m scared.” I said shaking in fear. “ I know but Chief Brains office is just around the corner.” We walked around the corner to see the Chief. “ Tap and Sink Water what are two country folks like you doing here at the station. You haven’t done anything have you?” said Chief Brain hoping that we didn’t do anything. “ We are here to report a missing chicken.” said Tap while I was hiding behind him. “ Ok do you have any idea who stole it?” “ Yes we have a hard drive with footage on it from last night.” Tap said having no fear in the world. It must have got it all. “ Alright I’ll look over it right now so we can get you chicken back.” “ Thank you .” I said trying to speak as  quietly as possible.

5 minutes later Chief Brain came back “ Well it’s quite obvious who stole your chicken. Box Boxtrotter.” “ Can you catch him. Pleaded Tap. “ Sure no problem. But let's hurry the contest is about to start.” In a rush of panic everyone ran out the door to the police station to catch the chicken thief. We arrived at the fair and searched for the one who stole my chicken. We looked and looked but no success until we heard the blood curdling sound of Chief Brains whistle. “ Your coming with me Mr Boxtrotter for breaking in and stealing a chicken.” Chief Brain handed me Clucky. “ Thank you Chief.” I whispered hoping he wouldn’t hear me but… he did. “ That’s no problem this happens more often than you think.” Chief Brain took Box back to the station and asked him a bunch of questions, his case was taken to court and he was given 10 years behind bars. And that was my day.

Kopuwai and the Clever girl- Retold by Brian Potiki

My summary on this story was about. The Maori legend of Kopuwai ( the monster ) and Kaiamio ( the clever girl ).  Kaiamio went out to search for Moa nests but on her way she got distracted and Kopuwai’s two headed dogs grabbed her and took her to Kopuwai’s cave. When she got there Kopuwai made a rope and tied it to Kaiamio’s ankle and made her do all of his chores.

But Kaiamio is very clever and builds a boat and sets herself free. Kopuwai found out and drank the river to try and find her again. Kaiamio told her tribe and they suck revenge they traveled to where Kopuwai was and lit it on fire.

We had to make a something to promote a country or  a place we have visited. This is my one.

Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week

Yesterday Rooms 1,2,3,and 4 went out into Rawhiti Domain and participated in a rubbish clean up. We met in Room 1 to hear what areas we would be assigned in our Houses. Many bad puns later we were split up into our house groups and went on the hunt. We found bottles, plastic, golf balls, and even tyres! At 12.10pm we met at the tree stumps to see who had collected the most rubbish. Overall Euphrasie House collected the most rubbish (heaviest & bulkiest)., We were all so glad to be helping make our local environment cleaner by picking up all of the rubbish.

This story was about the ice research that Nancy Bertler did using the ice from Antarctica to find out the earth's timeline and how much CO2 ( Carbon dioxide ) there is in the atmosphere.
Using drills they cut out the ice cores and take them back to New Zealand to study them under a microscope by melting the ice with a hot plate. The research shows that the CO2 levels have grown over the past thousand years. If we don't do something we are in danger of the whole world going under water.  Antarctica has more to do with global warming.

The Great barrier reef - Sarah Wilcox

This article was about. Increasing amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere that are warming up the ocean. If the water becomes 2-3 degrees warmer than its normal temperature something called coral bleaching happens which turns the vibrant coral white. Although most coral can survive this some may die during this process.

Destroying habitats for some marine wildlife.

Why we should stop using plastic

I strongly believe that we should stop using plastic. After reading this I hope you will agree with me.

My first reason is that it causes pollution! There is one huge problem in our world today and that is ... pollution. We are destroying this planet with one substance ... plastic, because we use so much everyday we need  to make it in massive factories which is releasing a lot of gases into our atmosphere, and since most people only use plastic products once it just builds up and for most plastic products it takes anywhere from 10-1000 years to break down.   

The second reason is that it affects our health. There is a lot of harmful toxins in plastic one is BPA, but now a lot of plastic is BPA free but there is still some chemicals in it. If exposed to some of these chemicals it could cause cancer in some people.

My final reason is that animals eat it. So much plastic is in our ocean that animals like turtles think that it is food but in reality it is a deadly weapon. Earlier this year a whale in Thailand died from eating 80 plastic bags that's how much plastic is in the water.

So in conclusion plastic is causing pollution, is harmful to people as well as animals. We can make a difference together if we star cutting down on plastic. We can do this.

Disneyland

On my third day in Los Angeles we went to Disneyland. I was so excited to go on the rides. We were going for five days three at Disneyland and two at California Adventure. Mum, Dad, Jackson and I walked down to Disneyland and walked through the gates. The excitement has just begun. 

The first day we went to Tomorrow Land , Toontown and Downtown Disney. We went on lots of different rides: undewater rides, spinning rides and more. We went during the 60 year celebration. We had fun. Jackson even lost his tooth while eating a hotdog.

Overall it was a great first day at Disneyland even if it was in 2015.

How to make a parachute

Aim : To successfully create a floating parachute.

You will nee : a plastic bag ( or light material )
                     . Scissors ✂️
                     . String
                     . A small action figure 🕴
Method

Step 1: Cut a large square out of the plastic bag.

Step 2 : Chop the your square into an octagon (eight sided shape).

Step 3 : Cut holes in each corner small enough to fit some string through.

Step 4 : Take eight pieces of string and cut them to the same length.

Step 5 : Poke the string through the holes and tie a knot.

Step 6 : Secure your action figure with the string.

Step 7 : Drop it off a high place ( e.g chair or stair case ).

Outstanding work you have now made a floating parachute 🏆.

Kapahaka

On Thursday the 31st August the kapahaka group went to Mairehau high school to do a performance in front of 600 other kids and teachers.

First we got on the bus in our kapahaka uniforms to go to Mairehau high school. We had to practice our routine on the bus. We sang takahia paki, tutira mai nga iwi and e toru nga mea it took a while but we got there eventually.

When we arrived it had just started raining we walked into the hall and sat down in our places. There were some amazing performances and we had to pick the ones we liked so if we wanted to do them we could get the lyrics.

It was finally our turn we all walked up to the stage nervously we sat on the stage and waited silently. We had to sing very very loud so that everyone could hear us we pretty much had to yell.We finished and everyone clapped.

Overall it was super awesome morning I would do it again 100%.

Dear classmates of room 1

Do you want to make this class great again? Then vote for me. Here are some reasons why.

First I'm really good at time management. I always make sure I'm at school before the gates open so I'm organised for the day. I've also had many jobs over my years at school. They include librarian, young vinnes, house captain, pals, road patrol and student council.

Second reason  fun without making it too crazy.  I've got everyone else, I can make  people laugh with a story, a joke or even a  weird dance. I can also be  serious when the time calls for it, like when I share a  funny story  I can't stop laughing.

 Third and final reason is that I can help others when they need it. I have a lot of strengths  that I can share with everyone I can help people who are struggling or nervous. I am a strong leader.   I can stay on task but also  help others as well  as myself  Like someone comes up to me and asked me if I can  buddy check them I will do it even if I have  something to do.

 Overall I think I'm a responsible, risible and reliable student. Vote for me
